Lorida Greek Taverna (laneway in Greek) is situated at the crossroads of Mornington, in arguably the best position in Main street. In its previous life, Lorida was known as Main Sail, a local café which had been trading for the past several years and which had closed its doors in June 2019.
The site was perfect for local restaurateur Jacqui Poulier’s concept of offering thoroughly Hellenic style food in a laneway setting, and after a six month refit Lorida opened its doors on 1st February 2020. After owning and operating Stillwater at Crittenden and Alatonero – a successful Greek restaurant in McCrae, the owner Jacqui embarked on establishing a more urbane dining destination in Mornington’s busy Main street, where patrons could enjoy cocktails at the bar (or alfresco facing the street with the added pleasure of people watching), or dinner inside the warm and vibrant space. As a busy all day dining venue and evening bar, Lorida was designed with the glamour of 1950’s Athens in mind, featuring a stunning terrazzo topped bar as the centrepiece and heart of the venue, marble and brass featured tables, traditional bentwood chairs by Thonet and two alfresco areas to sit and ponder the world over an ouzo and saganaki.
Six weeks after Lorida’s successful entrance to the Mornington restaurant scene, COVID-19 restrictions forced the closure of restaurants for sit down dining and cocktails, however Lorida remains open for both take away, ready meals and souvlaki’s! We look forward to the day when Lorida can once again re open and we welcome our friends and family back for a Greek feast, a long chat and an ouzo! Yamas!
